About Dianne

Biography

Dr. Dianne Saxe, Toronto’s Councillor for Ward 11 – University-Rosedale, is one of Canada’s most respected environmental and energy lawyers, with deep expertise in practical, sustainable solutions to urban challenges. As City Council’s environmental champion, she is making an impact on a wide range of public policies, including housing, parks, congestion, flooding, climate, TTC, Toronto Hydro, and the Art Gallery of Ontario.

Dr. Saxe was the last Environmental Commissioner of Ontario, the non-partisan guardian of the Environmental Bill of Rights. She holds Ph.Ds in Law and Environmental Studies, and has received many awards including Clean 50 and the Law Society Medal.

Dr. Saxe has worked closely with business and community stakeholders and sat on publicly traded and non-profit boards. She ran a small business and a government agency, and her writings have been widely published. She hosts two podcasts: Saxe and the City and Green Economy Heroes.

Dr. Saxe has generations of local roots. She is often seen cycling around the ward or enjoying local parks with her grandchildren.

New warming centre for the unhoused opened at Cecil Street Community Centre.

Toronto’s representative on climate action at the Cities Summit of the Americas.

Motion to secure additional market rental apartments when the city grants rental demolition.
